ASSESSMENT

The German International Stream (GIS) does not require an entrance assessment except those entering into the special German language programmes which are CLIPPY and Fast Track.

The English International Stream (EIS) is very selective and to ensure a fair and regulated admissions process for everyone, we have a regimented admissions policy. Students who apply must first pass all areas of the relevant entrance assessments. Among other criterias, we expect fluency in English to be equal to that of a native speaker of the same age.

Assessment invitations for the EIS are sent to parents based on the admissions priority and due to the number of applications we generally receive, we unfortunately cannot guarantee that an assessment will take place. If a child is not offered an assessment due to long waitlists, the application can be deferred to the next available year group at no additional cost and the original date will be retained.

EIS assessments include:
Kindergarten One (KG1) & Primary School Year One (Y01)Primary Year Two (Y02) - Year Six (Y06)Secondary Year 7 (Y07) - Year 10 (Y10) & Year 12 (Y12)
  • Candidates will be assessed individually but within a group of children.
  • Y02 and above will include a written test for English and Mathematics as well as verbal English reading comprehension.
  • Y03 to Y06 applicants should expect a computer based CAT4 test to be conducted. If successful at the CAT4, written tests for English and Mathematics will be administered alongside a verbal English reading comprehension.
  • We request a confidential recommendation form to be completed and submitted by the applicant’s current school. A place will not be offered to applicants who fail to provide the form.
  • Y07 to Y10 will receive a computer based CAT4 test, and a written English and Mathematics test.
  • Y12 will be interviewed, and we will request transcripts and a recommendation form from the applicant’s current school.

When a vacancy arises during the year, the next applicant in line will be contacted to determine if they are still interested in being offered a place. If yes, a new entrance test and/or interview may be arranged before the place is confirmed.

PLACEMENT

The Principal has the final approval of any applicant and once a place has been offered in either the German or English International Stream, the allocation or purchase of a Debenture must be finalised by the deadline date specified in the offer letter.

  • Once a student has been admitted to either stream, we do not support changing their curriculum since it can disrupt the continuity of the learning experience for the student.
  • Due to the regulations of the Education and Immigration Department, all students joining GSIS must be in possession of a valid Hong Kong ID card allowing unconditional stay or must have a valid passport with authorised residency status to be eligible for a place at the school. A visitor visa does not entitle the holder to attend any school in Hong Kong.
  • A Hong Kong ID card or visa is not required at the time of application, but proof of authorised residency status will be requested when the child is offered a place at the school. We accept applications from children of all nationalities and parents are welcome to supplement the application with a visa or Hong Kong ID card once those documents are available.
  • For all students attending the Pok Fu Lam Campus, it is a requirement to use the school bus.
  • The Peak Campus students have the option to use the school bus service.
  • In case you wish to decline the offer of a place, your application is archived and you will need to reapply to be considered for a future year of entry.
  • For students withdrawing from GSIS, please see further information under Leaving Notice
